Weaning from a bottle to straw cup should be a gradual transition starting from 6M onwards. To start, check for readiness signs such as if your baby is able to sit upright with minimal support and shows interest in what others are eating. To support your baby’s weaning transition, gradually replace bottle feeds with milk in a straw cup rather than eliminating bottle-feeding immediately. Learning to sip from a straw unlocks new oral motor skills and it can take time for babies to adjust. Some babies take a longer time to adjust or require comfort from bottle feeds. Offer encouragement and keep the weaning process stress-free.
